Waterloo Road: Series 6
BBC 1 Wednesday 8.00pm

The new series of Waterloo Road began on the 1st September 2010, just as the nation's teachers and pupils reluctantly returned to their respective schools.
Karen Fisher, the new headteacher (played by Amanda Burton)  made a less than impressive appearance at her first assembly, dressed in an ill-fitting skirt, opaque black tights and a pair of pristine white trainers, which were obviously being worn for the very first time that very morning. She looked like an escapee from a mental institution with her feet  stuffed in a pair of miniature white fairground bumper cars. How other senior members of staff resisted the temptation to tell her to go home and change, would be beyond comprehension, were it not for the fact, that most of the staff in this academy of awfulness, are attired with all the sartorial elegance of a bunch of Russian refugees escaping from from a Stalinist Gulag.
Christopher Mead,  the slightly deranged deputy head, managed to make his first appearance in bed with Jess Fisher, who it turns out, is the daughter of the new headteacher and a pupil at Waterloo Road..This tempting piece of supposedly teenage totty is played by the appropriately named, Linzey Cocker, a twenty three year old actress, who resembles a schoolgirl about as much as the new head of Spanish resembles a teacher.
The truly drippy ex pupil, Janeece Bryant has returned, pregnant, and as the head's new secretary, which is amazing, as she only left school last June with scarcely the skills and qualifications necessary to become a single teenage mum. Somehow, during her six week holiday she's found both the time to get pregnant and undertake a fast track secretarial course.
This new term also sees the regrettable return of Tom Clarkson, the most uninspiring Head of English in the entire state school system. Played by Jason Done, one can only wish that he will soon be well and truly 'done,' as his personality is about as charismatic as a bemused sheep on high doses of Ritalin.
The only two characters even vaguely worthy of admiration, are the ridiculously named Sambuca Kelly, a feisty girl, who at least had the good sense to elbow an obnoxious little know-all in the face and the amazing Grantly Budgen, who epitomises the lazy, incompetent, yet perceptive, child-hating cynics, which make British education the great and noble enterprise we all know and love.

  1. Hi Mr C.
I finally got round to reading some of your blogs, they are very funny! I particularly like this one! Waterloo road I think is an extreme version of Llantwit Comp. Like all TV programmes I guess but its always more entertaining when you have not long experienced the real thing yourself. I hope you are well and will write you an email shortly.
