Autumn Walk

Photo: copyright James Rainsford

In almost the last sun of summer
As leaves turn to gold in its light
We walk towards winter with longing
For lost seasons of earthly delight.

A past when each step had a purpose
And days could endure for years,
We played in the sunshine not knowing
That fevers and time would bring tears.

Now that our seasons are fewer
We’ve learned to mourn each passing day,
And must live with our future diminished
By time’s relentless decay.

Note to readers: This is one of my favourite photographs. Beth's prompt has given me the perfect opportunity to pen a new poem inspired by this image.
I'm pleased to link it to NWCU Autumn Kick-Off. Thanks Beth for the prompt. Kind regards to all, James.

  4. Simply said, James, I love this! Your words to bring images to the mind! The combination of image and poem is perfect! Especially like this James; it rings so true:

"A past when each step had a purpose
And days could endure for years,
We played in the sunshine not knowing
That fevers and time would bring tears."

    Thanks again, and kudos,
    Roger ☺

  5. What a beautiful photograph and words to go with it." Now that our seasons are fewer
We’ve learned to mourn each passing day,And must live with our future diminished
By time’s relentless decay." It is tough at times realizing I have fewer days ahead of me, but I don't dwell on it. I appreciate each day given. I have looked through your photographs. You are so talented. Happy to get to know you through NWCU!
