One of the Few

How is it, that you
Were one of the few
To shine through?
We’d shared the same past,
And some of us fast,
But most of us slow
Had nowhere to go;
Though you had arrived
While most of us lied,
And tried to pretend
We’d been a good friend
In the past.

You sported a name
Symbiotic with fame.
Is the price which you paid
What made us afraid?
Or was morality yours
And ours the flaws
Which make us recall
How the time we had bought
Just as dearly as you
Has all turned to naught?
Leaving tears to tarnish
Your stardust like rust.

The sad truth is that,
The dreams which we shared
Are with us all still,
And continue to kill,
By degrees.

  4. fame takes far too many terribly early...that last stanza is a ripper man....when dreams kill us little by little....

  6. I'm sorry for your loss. I think your last few lines sum it up, though, how memories and shared dreams can really become a poison when we lose someone.... Very nice poem...

  7. This is heart-wrenching but also fascinating, comparing the abrupt early death with the slow death of the dreams of those that live on... nice piece, though sorry for the reasons behind it.
