Prayer

The dreams we keep in grown-up sleep
Bring nightly visions of a place
Where time and space
Have ceased to be.
A magic place,
Where we can be,
Free to choose
How lovers win and cynics lose.
Where night shall bring such
Soothing songs to right past deeds
And ancient wrongs,
Dispelling fears of demons past
Bringing perfect peace at last.

May all our dreams
from childhood come
nightly with the end of real,
And brightly burning, make us feel
As we did when we were young,
Reborn each morning with the sun.

  1. smiles....if only we could hold onto those dreams we had when young...and feel the same again and not let that slip away to the responsibility of adulthood and all the things that weigh on us...keep dreaming, smiles.

  2. Wonderful -- I just wish dreams could be like that, and even better reality .. a beautiful prayer indeed.

  3. Very true, James--and a lovely sense of floating in the rhyme and structure, with all the soft edges of dreams.

  5. Ironically, most of us only kept our sense of play, but as children we were consumed with angst and "fair" play; everyone giving us orders, having dominion and power over us; pushing most of us to grow up as fast as we could; but hindsight is always 20/20. I liked the feel & shape of this piece; nice ride, sir.

  6. This is a very touching poem..there is just something so surreal about dreams as we try to capture all the magic within our dreams. To feel dreams through the eyes of our inner child.

  7. Each new day full of possibilities, not obstacles to overcome. A sweet, wishful poem.
