Posted as my contribution to One Shot Wednesday for 22nd June.

Note to Readers: An experiment in combining text with image in a more intimate relationship than is my usual style.. This poem is intended to paint a picture in words. Yours views are very welcome. Please click on the comments tab below. I'll try to respond to all who leave a comment, and yes, I did take the photograph.
Kind regards to all who visit here. James.

  2. nice artistry james...the verse itself is great word play and quick rhyme with a feast of imagery the gull defying the pull but also the beauty of the waves crash throwing a kiss...

  3. I've read this twice and the beauty with which it reads is mesmerising - it's almost as if I was on the wing with the gull - and the use of words - spume with fume and competent with contempt - lovely. But also punctuation allowing free speed and glide - I guess, it's punctuation, done properly - brilliant James ! Steve

  4. Of course me and picking up on the rhymes is a not brainer, ha, really kept it quick and engaging. Great job placing it in the pic too, and nice shot you took.

  5. I absolutely love the combination of the picture with the poem James, the one enhances the other. The fact that you took the picture yourself adds to the weight of the finished product, which is mesmerizing. The poem is so tightly woven - definately one of my favourites of yours.

  6. You are an artist, James. The image makes me question if I can see the bird's skeletal frame before the wing tips. Phenomenal shot. And the poetry complements the image very well. There's a glide to your rhythm and rhyme that fills in what the camera doesn't catch of the background. Inspiring work.

  7. Just excellent use of rhyme, internal and otherwise, and that ending is like a verbal photo of a moment. Esp like the image "they flip from grey to white..." brings them instantly to the mind's eye. Liked it much.

  11. World class awesomeness. Great lines, rhymes, word choices, voice, flow. Blue ribbon great. And the words with the art made it all one. Very impressed and inspired to keep writing. Thank you.

  12. I think we found inspiration in the same sort of thing although our "bird poems" this week took divergent paths in the sky or in the window as it were. Both seeking an image yet I like your internal rhymes and brilliant alliteration. You truly made your verse free and soaring while using the apt word choice needed. Well done. Gay
